Kane Constructions has been awarded the contract to deliver the $52 million Brimbank Community and Civic Centre project.
The striking design by Lyons, which draws on the saw tooth industrial heritage of the site, will open onto Hampshire Road and the surrounding precinct creating a great environment for learning and community collaboration.
The design includes an exceptional new Sunshine Library set over the first two floors with a large double height reading room and areas for different user groups including children, teens, and adults.
A new customer service centre and a local history interpretive centre make up the ground floor footprint. The second floor also includes a learning centre and community rooms, the council chamber, and an exhibition space.
In addition to being a landmark building in its own right, the new building will contribute to the ongoing renewal of the Sunshine town centre.
This is the 14th project on which Kane and Lyons have collaborated since we delivered the Bellarine Centre at Geelong Hospital in 1996.
Significant community facilities currently being constructed by Kane include:
- Geelong Library and Heritage Centre, VIC
- The Rockdale Library, NSW
- Aquanation (Ringwood Aquatic Centre), VIC
- Springwood Community & Cultural Facility, NSW
