Geelong Mayor Darryn Lyons today joined Federal Senator Michael Ronaldson Minister for Veterans Affairs and Deputy Premier Peter Ryan in turning the first sod on construction of the new Geelong Library and Heritage Centre.

“I’m pleased to announce Kane Constructions as the builder of our incredible new landmark library and heritage centre. Kane have a strong record of major projects including Simmonds Stadium, RACV Torquay, Barwon Health and St John of God Hospital so I’m confident this will be a quality build.”

“Let’s celebrate the start of construction of Geelong’s most important and largest cultural building”, said Mayor Lyons.

Chair of the Geelong Library Corporation Board Councillor Andy Richards said “this facility is a response to the massive societal and technological shifts which are part of our times. It is the key to ensuring that our citizens have access to ideas, technology, stimulating events and the opportunity to be creative and to be socially-connected.”
