Geelong Hospital FRMS Upgrade
Kane Constructions was engaged in early 2005 as Construction Manager on behalf of Barwon Health to oversee a major fire upgrade at the Geelong Hospital.
The scope of works included installation of a sprinkler system, new fire detection as well as fire compartmentation via new fire rated doors, walls and collars to all existing services. Building works involved new ceilings, relocation of existing services and access to the external elevations for installation of wall washing sprinkler heads.
Works took place in every building on the campus with extensive coordination and planning required to minimise disruption to hospital operations. Wards were decanted on a level-by-level basis with all testing, commissioning and certification taking place prior to re-occupation of each area.
The $5 million package was successfully completed in late 2005.
