Griffith University had a requirement to improve their data centre infrastructure to ensure it meets future business requirements, together with the need to be more energy efficient.
Kane Constructions were engaged by Griffith University to upgrade the existing data centres and secondary TER room, at both of their Nathan and Gold Coast Campuses, to provide additional cooling capacity and a new building management system (BMS) to allow interfacing with the existing data management system.
The upgrade works were also designed to allow additional power and security requirements, and improvements to the existing level of fire protection. This included the upgrading of existing fire detection systems and provision of gaseous fire suppression systems.
These works were undertaken within a fully operational data centre, hence strict awareness of the critical infrastructure and maintaining its operation was important to ensure it was not negatively impacted.
