Kane Constructions was awarded the $11 million Lump Sum contract to deliver the Logan Lodge Residential Aged Care Facility.
The project involved the construction of a new single-storey, 45-bed residential aged care facility incorporating three lounge areas, a multipurpose room, dining area, utilities, four internal courtyards, external terraces and administration spaces.
Works included the demolition of existing dwellings and buildings containing asbestos, along with upgrades to the main switchboard within the adjacent hospital. Temporary access and egress arrangements were also established to maintain operations for the existing 24/7 Emergency Care Unit and surrounding hospital facilities.
Planning and sequencing of works were critical due to the constrained site conditions, with the building envelope covering the majority of the site and the project bordered by the operating hospital and overhead power lines. Close coordination with hospital staff was required throughout the project to minimise disruption to ongoing operations.
Additional planning and management were required to maintain continuous backup power to the hospital while removing an existing generator and installing a new generator platform and two new generators between operational buildings with limited site access.
The project reached Practical Completion in February 2016.
