The $11M Lump Sum project included the construction of a new 45 bed single storey residential aged care facility including three lounge areas, multipurpose room, dining area, utilities, four internal courtyards, external terraces and administration area.
Planning and sequencing of works were critical as there was restricted access to site due to the building envelope that covered the majority of the site and the site being bordered by the existing hospital and power lines.
Scope of works included the demolition of the existing dwellings and buildings containing asbestos, demolition and temporary access/egress to the existing 24/7 operating ECU building and adjacent hospital buildings and main switchboard upgrade works within the existing hospital.
Works required close planning with the hospital staff to ensure disruptions to the facilities operations were minimised.
Careful planning and management was required to ensure that backup power was provided to the hospital whilst removing an existing generator and installing a new generator platform and two new generators between existing operational buildings with limited access.
The project reached Practical Completion in February 2016.
