Delivered by fixed lump sum after competitive tender, this project involved the construction of a new car wash and vacuum facility for use by Hire Car Companies and Taxis at the International Terminal (Terminal 1) at Sydney International Airport

The building works comprised of the demolition of existing car park and landscaping and construction on new structural steel canopy on slab on ground, metal deck roof and metal wall cladding, new plant room, car wash and vacuum equipment and associated services and landscaping. The services included all hydraulic services to service the car wash including a new in ground 10,000L rain water tank.

One problem encountered on the project was the car wash equipment itself. The equipment was sourced from the United States by the client and as such had to be shipped into the country. This process caused two issues, one being time as the delivery date was delayed several times, in the end did not affect the program and secondly the equipment arrived in an unorganized manner in shipping container resulting in parts being missing therefore requiring parts to be sourced locally.

This new facility allows the Sydney Airport Corporation to lease out the facility to the numerous hire care companies in order for them to maintain all the hire cars available at the airport. This will provide a new source of revenue for the Sydney Airport Corporation as well as providing better facilities at the ever growing Sydney International Airport.  The works were carried out without disruption to the airport operations and this included power shutdowns for commissioning. The project was delivered on program.
