This project consisted of the demolition and removal of all redundant mechanical services, electrical services, cold rooms, glasshouses and growing areas from the open roof top at Level 6. As well as the services demolition, concrete toppings were removed to expose the existing structural slab, enabling the existing slab to be structurally inspected and waterproofed. The demolition required complex planning and successful trade cooperation.

New works included a structural steel framed roof incorporating many difficult crane lifts and tight coordination of structural hold down bolts throughout the occupied offices below. A new floor slab was added and additional brickwork, new aluminium windows and feature “fins” defined the additional level of the building. Following further negotiation with an “open-book” approach, Kane were awarded the internal fit out for the University of Queensland Post Graduate School. The fit out included offices, meeting rooms, student study areas, a seminar room, resource facilities and administration areas. The services installation was extremely technical, and included the provision of mechanical services, data & AV systems to be incorporated into the existing building.
