Construction of a $7 million Visitor Centre located at Lake Mountain in regional Victoria.
The new facility comprised three levels with the resort ski patrol, offices and first aid facilities located in the semi-basement; a commercial kitchen, visitor lounge, public amenities and ski hire located at Ground Level, with offices and apartments housed on Level 1.
The building was constructed from structural steel with precast hollow core planks used to form the suspended levels. Due to its alpine location a steeply pitched roof was designed and particular attention was paid to the insulative properties of the building with thermally broken window units used throughout.
The alpine conditions also required consideration with regard to programming of the works with a four month 'no work' period allowed for during the intervening winter.
Works commenced in early 2010 with the facility opened to the public for the 2011 winter season.
