Expansion and refurbishment of the extremely popular RACV City Club located in Bourke Street, Melbourne.

The $12m project was delivered by fixed lump sum and comprised the addition of a new level to the podium (Level 4) housing a restaurant for members, a new Day Spa, retail fitout of a cafe on Little Collins Street and the refurbishment of a gymnasium, squash courts and commercial kitchen within the existing building.

Construction was staged to allow the facility to remain fully operational with noisy works such as demolition being carried out after hours. Daily planning meetings were held with stakeholders to ensure minimal impact on the day-to-day operations of the club.

All hoisting took place from Little Collins Street and required detailed planning and coordination with the City of Melbourne. Site amenities were located on a gantry over Kitz Lane at the rear of the building. The constraints of the site called for just-in-time delivery of key elements of the building including structural steel and fade components. A high level of finishes was specified and delivered.

Kane Constructions completed the works over a 12-month program with practical completion being achieved in 2007.
