Kane's Success at the National Master Builders Awards 2017

30th November, 2017

Two Kane projects were rewarded for Excellence in Construction at the 2017 National Master Builder Awards held in Hobart last Saturday Night.

The $6m Centenary Theatre at Taronga Zoo designed by Tanner Kibble Denton and Wood and Grieve won the National Excellence in Commercial Construction award $5m -$10m.  Kane Constructions Sydney General Manager Cameron Powell said "The client is ecstatic with the outcome. And it’s a credit to our team to complete this facility in amongst the busy and challenging operational zoo environment." Completed in May 2017, the building houses a 270 degree lecture theatre, allowing visitors to view animals in the natural world in exciting new ways, emphasising the Zoo’s ongoing focus on the conservation of wildlife and environmental sustainability.

The $66m University of Melbourne Arts West Redevelopment designed by ARM and Architectus won the National Excellence in Commercial Construction $50m -$100m.  Kane was engaged under a design and construct guaranteed maximum price form of contract. The new facility comprises dynamic teaching and learning spaces for staff and students housed within a six level state-of-the-art building. One of the most striking features of the Arts West building is its façade, which includes a dense network of steel fins arranged to incorporate impressions of selected artworks and artefacts from the University’s cultural collections. The project was delivered well under budget and ahead of schedule. Joint Managing Director Richard Frisina was involved in the project. "Arts West was the epitome of collaboration. The terrific outcome is a direct result of the positive attitude our Kane team, the design consultants, and the University of Melbourne brought to the project. To celebrate here in Hobart with our client representative from the University of Melbourne is simply another example of the positive relationship forged on the project."

Joint Managing Director Tristan Forster noted "On the back of our previous year’s success in taking away the prestigious National Commercial Master Builder of the Year Award, Kane are thrilled that these two great projects have been recognised nationally amongst our peers in the industry and it is great recognition of the hard work, commitment and professionalism that our project teams displayed."

Thank you to Master Builders Australia for hosting this fantastic event and congratulations to the other winners.
