Bunjil takes flight

11th October, 2022

The building of the new Bendigo Law Courts is flying towards completion as Bunjil takes flight across the facade.

For the Traditional Owners of Central Victoria, the Dja Dja Wurrung, Bunjil (depicted as an eagle) is the ancestral creator and knowledge keeper. His presence reflects the new building’s design principles, which include a culturally inclusive, safe court.

Kane Nicholson is proud to have worked with respected Djaara / Boonwurrung artist Racquel Kerr to magnify her majestic Bunjil design across the court's perforated copper facade screen.

Positioned on Level 4, over Koori Court’s foyer, his shadow will be cast through the screen into the space below.

Artist Racquel Kerr described Bunjil's significance, saying "Bunjil helps us to understand our connection to each other...his stories relate to the landscape, culture, traditions, and laws to follow".
