Following its success at the 2025 Master Builders ACT Awards, the Australian War Memorial (AWM) Southern Entrance project has been shortlisted for three categories at the 2025 National Master Builders Awards in Adelaide:
- National Commercial / Industrial Construction Award – $50 Million to $100 Million
- National Commercial Historical Restoration / Renovation Award
- National Construction Master Builder of the Year
The completion of the new Main Entrance at the Australian War Memorial reflects Kane’s commitment to delivering complex heritage projects that honour Australia’s history while embracing modern innovation. Supported by our in-house digital engineering team, the project achieved remarkable precision across every stage, ensuring the highest quality and respect for this national icon.
A key feature of the build is the 12-tonne glass oculus, formed from individually designed glass petals imported from Spain. The installation was the result of more than 12 months of meticulous planning and executed with millimetre accuracy. This sits alongside the exposed curved concrete soffit that supports the forecourt above, another example of Kane’s dedication to technical excellence and craftsmanship.
The project’s greatest engineering challenge was the extensive excavation and underpinning works, carried out while keeping the Memorial fully operational. Protecting the structural integrity of the 83-year-old heritage-listed building required extraordinary care, coordination and planning from the entire project team.
This once-in-a-lifetime project stands as a testament to Kane’s ability to deliver with precision and care while preserving the legacy of one of Australia’s most significant cultural landmarks.
