Kane Constructions has been recognised at the Master Builders 2025 National Excellence in Building & Construction Awards, with the Australian War Memorial Southern Entrance project receiving two national honours: the National Commercial & Industrial Construction Award ($50M–$100M) and the National Commercial Historical Restoration & Renovation Award. These awards celebrate both the technical excellence and the heritage sensitivity of this significant national landmark.
This national recognition reflects the extraordinary technical achievement, precision and collaboration behind one of Australia’s most significant heritage projects. Delivered within a live, highly sensitive environment, the new Southern Entrance involved extensive excavation beneath the 83-year-old Memorial, complex underpinning works and careful protection of the existing structure throughout construction.
A standout feature of the project is the 12-tonne glass oculus, formed from individually designed glass petals imported from Spain and installed to millimetre precision. Supported by advanced digital engineering, this architectural centrepiece delivers both structural and symbolic significance, illuminating 15 engraved words that honour the virtues of Australian defence personnel.
The project also delivered a new underground entrance hall, bespoke glazed lift, theatre, function spaces, amenities and improved wayfinding, all seamlessly integrated while the Memorial remained fully operational. These upgrades enhance visitor access and ensure the Memorial continues to serve the community for generations to come.
This achievement is a tribute to our dedicated delivery team, valued consultants and skilled subcontractors whose expertise brought this once-in-a-generation project to life.
