Kane Constructions and arete Australia are proud to support the Balamu Community Outreach Program (BACOP) and its work creating opportunities for vulnerable children and young people in Uganda.
Founded in 2012, BACOP supports communities surrounding the Mehta sugar plantations, where many families face poverty, limited access to education and other significant social and economic challenges. The program uses football as a way to connect with young people and create pathways into education, mentorship, leadership development and life skills.
Through this partnership, Kane and arete are helping BACOP continue its work with children and young people who may otherwise have limited access to these opportunities.
While football is at the heart of the program, BACOP’s impact extends well beyond the field. Participants are supported to build confidence, discipline, teamwork and leadership skills, while remaining engaged in education and developing skills that can support their future employment and personal development.
BACOP currently supports approximately 40 boys and girls through primary and secondary education, while its football academy includes 60 children across Under-15 boys, Under-13 girls and Under-10 mixed teams. The program is also creating greater opportunities for girls to participate in football and access education, helping young women build confidence, self-esteem and leadership skills within their communities.
For Kane and arete, the partnership is about supporting a program that is creating meaningful and lasting outcome. By investing in education, sport and mentorship, we are proud to help BACOP give more young people the opportunity to learn, grow, develop their talents and build a stronger future for themselves and their communities.
