Kane Constructions was awarded the $20 million Lump Sum contract to deliver a major upgrade of the Grand Hyatt Melbourne. The works involved redeveloping the main Russell Street entrance, lobby and façade, upgrading the Collins Street façade and retail plaza and creating additional conference and dining facilities.
The scope also included the creation of The Residence, a signature event space made up of individually styled rooms, a fully functional show kitchen, an internal garden courtyard and a terrace overlooking Collins Street. This venue set a new benchmark for high end function spaces in Australia.
Access for construction was extremely limited and the hotel remained fully operational throughout the project. Kane worked closely with the client and design team to plan staging, manage disruption and achieve the highest level of finish.
Kane secured the project through a competitive tender in mid 2007 and reached Practical Completion in early 2009.
