Kane Constructions was awarded the $12 million Lump Sum contract to deliver the expansion and refurbishment of the popular RACV City Club on Bourke Street in Melbourne. The project involved adding a new Level 4 podium housing a members’ restaurant and a new Day Spa, completing a retail fitout for a café on Little Collins Street and refurbishing the existing gymnasium, squash courts and commercial kitchen.
Construction was carefully staged so the club could remain fully operational at all times. Noisy works, including demolition, were completed after hours and daily planning meetings with stakeholders ensured the least possible impact on normal club activities.
All hoisting was undertaken from Little Collins Street, requiring detailed coordination with the City of Melbourne. Site amenities were positioned on a gantry above Kitz Lane and the tight urban footprint meant key materials such as structural steel and façade components were delivered on a just in time basis. The project required, and achieved, a consistently high level of finish throughout.
Kane delivered the works within a 12 month program and achieved Practical Completion in 2007.
