Kane Constructions was awarded the Spirit of Tasmania – Passenger Terminal Building in November 2021 under a Design and Construct contract.

Located at Corio Quay Road in North Geelong, the Spirit of Tasmania Passenger Terminal Building project was completed in mid-2022. The $19 million project encompasses a 12-hectare site designed to accommodate the future growth of passenger and freight services between mainland Australia and Tasmania. The terminal improves operational efficiency, reducing turnaround times which enhances the overall customer experience.

The project scope of words included:

  • Comfortable, accessible and connected passenger lounge areas
  • Children’s play area, cafe, and a pet exercise area
  • Space for seamless and efficient boarding and security processes for passengers
  • Dedicated passenger drop-off and long-term parking
  • Dedicated berth for the Spirit of Tasmania vessels
  • Office facilities and crew accommodation
  • Crew and staff car parking
  • Flexible storage and expanded facilities for freight clients

This project not only created construction jobs but also supports long-term employment opportunities in the region through increased maritime operations and tourism. The terminal stands as a vital link in the transport network, reinforcing Geelong's status as a key gateway for Tasmania-bound travel and trade.
