Kane Constructions was awarded the $36 million Design and Construct contract to deliver the Stromlo Leisure Centre, a contemporary aquatic, health and fitness facility that serves the growing Molonglo Valley, Stromlo and the wider Canberra community.
Designed to integrate with the surrounding landscape of Stromlo Forest Park, the centre features the longest spanning glulam timber beams in the Southern Hemisphere, creating a striking architectural connection between the building and its natural setting. The facility includes an eight-lane 50-metre lap pool, a 20-metre warm water program and rehabilitation pool, splash park, gymnasium, rehabilitation and exercise areas, front-of-house amenities, plant and storage rooms, and associated circulation spaces.
The project delivers a high-quality community destination that supports recreation, fitness, rehabilitation and wellbeing, while showcasing innovative timber construction and sustainable design.
The project reached Practical Completion in June 2020.
