Following a lengthy tender period, and working with a large consultant team to fully design the new facility, Kane have successfully secured the Stromlo Leisure Centre for ACT Infrastructure Finance and Capital Works.
The new facility includes:
- Eight lane 50 metre lap swimming pool, capable of being split into 2 x 25 metre short course swimming pools
- Twenty metre program/warm water multipurpose pool for learn to swim classes, exercise and rehabilitation activities
- Supplementary facilities to support the pool including front out house areas, amenities, plant/store rooms and general circulation areas
- Splash park
One of the major and unique design features of the project is the glue laminated timber roof structure to the main pool hall. Whilst common throughout Europe and other parts of the world, large timber framed structures are still a rarity in Australia. The glue laminated timber will provide a connection between the building and the natural landscape of the Stromlo Forrest Park.
The project is currently in phase 1 – design, and phase 2 – construction, will commence in mid-2018 with the project due for completion in early 2020.
