Kane was engaged to deliver a new arts building at the operational Sunshine Coast Grammar School, located at Forest Glen on the Sunshine Coast.

The works included the construction of a new single-storey arts building, which incorporates multiple general, multimedia and art learning areas along with staff facilities, storage areas and a kiln room. Peripheral works also included the demolition of existing structures and upgrades to existing school services.

Early on in the process, Kane proposed many cost-saving options to the client, including rationalisation of AV equipment and hearing augmentation, change of material selection to gutters, and changes to glazing suites.

During the project, Kane added value for money options including changes to joinery, alternate light fittings, changes to fire services and lining changes. All options provided significant cost and program savings to Sunshine Coast Grammar School.

The new building is situated centrally within the existing school campus and was constructed concurrently with school operations. Kane successfully managed noisy work with the school and paused work during special events and particular times of the day to minimise disruption. Kane managed concrete pours on weekends to reduce the interaction of concrete trucks with staff, students and cars within the school grounds.

Given this project was situated in an operational school environment, the site was set with a heavy-duty construction fence wrapped in shade cloth. This successfully separated the site from the school, staff and students. Any subcontractors who were required to do works outside the site fence required authority from the school administration to sign into the school visitor register and be escorted at all times.
