Balustrades at Monash University Chancellery Building taking shape

26th May, 2019

Off-site fabrication of the first of 80 pre-finished balustrade segments, made from CNC-milled, Victorian plywood. Each segment weighs up to two tonne each, which will be lifted into place using a crane within the building. There is over five kilometres of plywood strips to make up these huge panels!

Our team has been working closely with TGA Engineers and Standstruct to realise ARM Architecture’s stunning vision. Level 1 balustrade incorporates spacing in the timber to meet the acoustic modelling by Marshall Day.

The balustrade has been designed using 3D computer modelling to account for natural long term movement in the timber with the ability to adjust during the building's lifecycle.
