Automated Waste Collection System Project Wins Master Builders Award

15th September, 2021

Last Friday night Kane Queensland’s Automated Waste Collection System project was awarded the Excellence in Construction for Community Service Facilities award at the Sunshine Coast 2021 Housing and Construction Master Builders Awards.

Under a Design & Construct contract, Kane delivered Australia’s first high-tech underground Automated Waste Collection System (AWCS) within the Maroochydore City Centre.

The AWCS transports waste from a series of public realm inlets located throughout the Maroochydore City Centre via a network of heavy-duty underground vacuum steel pipes to the AWCS, travelling at speeds of up to 70kmh.

This new technology increases recycling rates, and reduces congestion and noise pollution on city streets by eliminating trucks and promoting sustainable waste management to the benefit of our natural environment.

The success of this project hinged on the collaborative efforts from all parties involved. Congratulations to the project team and all stakeholders on delivering this award winning facility.
