Stage 2 of the Monash Medical Centre Emergency Department & Traffic Improvement project is now complete.
The expansion includes a new emergency department and a dedicated children’s emergency area. This area is designed to help meet the increasing demand for paediatric emergency care.
The project improves access for ambulances arriving at the emergency department and addresses traffic and congestion concerns for patients and staff accessing the hospital. Traffic improvement works to separate the public front of house access from emergency vehicle and back of house logistics access.
All internal areas have been refurbished, and an additional 28 emergency department beds and an extra six short-stay beds have been added. The new space features cutting-edge technology including pandemic negative airflow capabilities.
The emergency department delivers 41 adult emergency bays for this stage and will help to treat an additional 46,000 emergency department presentations every year.
Thanks to an accelerated program, the cutting edge facility has opened its doors ahead of schedule.
