Significant progress continues across the Ballarat Major Events Precinct, with the Kane Nicholson Joint Venture reaching major construction milestones at both Mars Stadium and the new Ballarat Regional Athletics Centre.
At Mars Stadium, five roof modules made from structural steel and mass laminated timber have now been preassembled off site, transported overnight on custom-built stillages and lifted into place using a 450 tonne mobile crane. The modules weighed between 18 and 35 tonnes and required steel fabrication to tight tolerances of less than three millimetres. This stage has been delivered in collaboration with Plinius Engineering, CBW Crane Hire and Rigging, Premier Cranes and Rigging and Australian Sustainable Hardwood who supplied the structural timber.
Across the wider precinct, the second grandstand’s concrete plats are complete and ready for roof installation. At the new Regional Athletics Centre, the athletics track construction and Athletics Clubhouse ground slab are also nearing completion.
These works are an important step in delivering this high quality sporting infrastructure for the Ballarat community and strengthening the region’s capacity to host major events.
