Lean In Site Visit: Cobblebank and Ballarat

30th April, 2026

Kane Constructions Lean In Program recently brought together team members from both Kane and arete Australia for a full-day site visit across two key Victorian projects, providing an opportunity to connect, learn and gain firsthand insight into project delivery.

The day began at Head Office in Cremorne, with the group travelling to the Cobblebank Community Services Building.

At Cobblebank, the group attended a project presentation by Sam Cadlow followed by a guided site walk from Construction Manager, Sam Birdseye, providing an overview of the development and an opportunity to experience the project firsthand. The session highlighted the scale and complexity of delivering a multi-use facility designed to support a range of community, health and commercial services.

The team also shared insights into key delivery considerations, including façade detailing and waterproofing, the integration of timber elements to reduce carbon, and the approach to delivering the structure, including key decisions around crane strategy and site logistics.

From Cobblebank, the group travelled to the Ballarat Major Events Precinct for the second site visit of the day.

At Ballarat, the team attended a project presentation delivered by David Purdue, followed by a site walk of the new 5,000 seat grandstand and athletics track. The session provided an overview of the project scope and highlighted the complexity of the grandstand structure, including the coordination of precast, steel and roof installation.

The presentation also touched on the challenges of delivering a large-scale regional project, including ground conditions, contaminated fill, extensive earthworks and the level of planning and quality assurance required to deliver a world-class athletics facility.

The day concluded with a shared lunch on-site before returning to Melbourne.

The Lean In Program continues to play an important role in supporting and empowering women across the business. Initiatives such as site visits create space for connection, shared learning and practical insight, reinforcing Kane’s commitment to fostering an environment where women can grow, contribute and thrive.

A big thank you to the project teams at Cobblebank and Ballarat for hosting the group and generously sharing their time, knowledge and project insights throughout the day.
