St Vincent’s Private Hospital Fitzroy officially opens

22nd October, 2025

Kane Constructions proudly joined St Vincent’s Private Hospital Fitzroy to celebrate the official opening of the Main Works redevelopment, marking the completion of a $180 million transformation that enhances the hospital’s capacity to deliver exceptional patient care.

The opening ceremony included a Welcome to Country by Wurundjeri Elder Uncle Colin Hunter Jnr, followed by a blessing led by the Most Reverend Peter A. Comensoli, Archbishop of Melbourne, alongside representatives from the Sisters of Charity, Mary Aikenhead Ministries and St Vincent’s Private Hospital’s leadership team.

Constructed adjacent to the existing facility, the twelve-storey tower expands the hospital’s clinical and research capacity while strengthening collaboration between St Vincent’s Private and St Vincent’s Public Hospitals. The development features new operating theatres, intensive care and high dependency units, birthing suites, a day oncology unit and the refurbishment of the existing tower originally built by Kane in the early 1990s.

As part of the broader scope, heritage restoration works were also completed on the East Hill Hotel, East Hill House and Edensor House, preserving the site’s historic significance while supporting modern healthcare delivery.

Delivered within a live hospital environment, the project demanded meticulous planning and close collaboration to maintain essential hospital operations throughout construction.

The completion and official opening of this landmark redevelopment reflect Kane’s ongoing commitment to delivering complex, high-quality health infrastructure in partnership with valued clients and communities across Victoria.
