Cowper Street Social Housing Redevelopment reaches completion

15th December, 2025

Kane Constructions has completed the Cowper Street Social Housing Redevelopment in Glebe, delivering 75 new social homes for Homes NSW.

Located at 17–31 Cowper Street and 2A–2D Wentworth Park Road, the development provides three studio apartments, 40 one-bedroom apartments, 27 two-bedroom apartments and five three-bedroom terrace homes, creating high-quality new housing for approximately 130 residents.

Designed to respond to Glebe’s established character and rich architectural history, the redevelopment comprises two eight-storey residential buildings and a three-storey terrace building. The design draws inspiration from the area’s historic woolstore buildings and Victorian terraces while providing contemporary, accessible homes that meet the needs of a diverse community.

Sustainability was central to the project, with the development designed to achieve a 5 Star Green Star rating and high NatHERS performance. Cross Laminated Timber and precast concrete were incorporated into the construction, alongside green roofs, extensive landscaping and upgraded surrounding public spaces.

The project was designed by Johnson Pilton Walker, with design input from The King’s Trust Australia, and was delivered in partnership with Homes NSW and Bridge Housing.

The completion of Cowper Street builds on Kane’s longstanding experience delivering social and community infrastructure across New South Wales and provides a significant addition to Glebe’s social housing offering.
