Kane Property Services has been recognised at the 2026 Master Builders Brisbane Housing & Construction Awards, with the University of Southern Queensland Q Block Chimney Remediation project taking out the Commercial Refurbishment/Renovation up to $3 million category.
Delivered at UniSQ’s Ipswich Campus, the project involved the structural stabilisation, masonry repair and long-term conservation of the 24-metre-high detached brick chimney associated with the former Boiler House at the State heritage-listed Challinor Centre.
The works included extensive internal and external masonry repointing, selective brick removal and reinstatement, structural steel strengthening, core-drilled tie rods, repairs to the chimney crown and treatment of existing steelwork. Approximately 70 per cent of the structure was repointed, with original heritage bricks cleaned and reinstated wherever possible to retain the chimney’s character and significance.
The completed project has preserved an important landmark within the UniSQ Ipswich Campus while improving the long-term durability and structural performance of the historic chimney.
