The two tower cranes helping Kane Constructions deliver the Monash Medical Centre Tower Expansion Project have officially been named. After receiving strong support for the campaign, ‘Dr Lift’ and ‘Nurse Strong’ came out on top as the names chosen for the tower cranes.
Monash Health invited patients and visitors to the Monash Children’s Hospital, which overlooks the tower construction site, to submit their ideas as part of a nomination. Dr Lift and Nurse Strong were selected as the winning names.
Five-year-old Billy and his family were behind Dr Lift, combining the worlds of healthcare and construction in a name that quickly became a favourite. Nurse Strong was submitted by the family of two-year-old Alexander, who was born prematurely at Monash and spent around three months in hospital. His family chose the name to recognise the nurses who care for children and families during their time in hospital, and the strength of the young patients themselves.
The cranes are playing an important role in the construction of the new clinical services tower, which will deliver new operating theatres, pre-operative and post-operative recovery beds, expanded maternity services, a new intensive care unit and Central Sterile Services Department.
Kane is proud to be delivering the project in partnership with the Victorian Health Building Authority and Monash Health, with completion expected in 2029.
It is great to see the local community become part of the project and give two of the most visible members of our site team names of their own.
