Kane Constructions has completed the large-scale refurbishment of the maternity facility at Logan Hospital on Brisbane’s southside.

The works were delivered over 12 stages, each carefully planned to allow new areas to be built, decanted and occupied while hospital services remained fully operational. Close collaboration with Metro South Health and hospital staff ensured continuity of care for patients throughout construction.

The new maternity facilities include birthing suites, a special care nursery, general wards, a new ambulance entry, reception, outpatients lounge and office spaces. Service upgrades such as EWIS and fire hydrant replacements, along with medical gas adaptations, were also undertaken. Infection control was carefully managed through temporary pods, zip walls and COVID-safe practices.

To minimise disruption within live clinical spaces, Kane worked with an acoustician to introduce noise attenuation measures, including acoustic curtains and environmental monitoring stations. Civil works were also completed, including groundwater management, retaining walls and construction of a new access road while maintaining access for service vehicles.

As part of the wider Logan Hospital Expansion Project, this refurbishment required strong collaboration with multiple contractors and stakeholders. The completed facility now provides a modern, safe and supportive environment for mothers, babies and families in one of Queensland’s busiest hospitals.
