Kane Constructions is proud to once again partner with the Melbourne Indigenous Transition School (MITS), delivering a partial refurbishment of their newly acquired facility at 283 Church Street, Richmond.
Engaged under a Lump Sum contract, Kane is delivering the transformation of the ground floor of the existing three-level 1970s building, previously operating as a medical centre. The fitout will provide dedicated classrooms, focus rooms, a staff and reception area to accommodate Year 7 and 8 students. This project serves as a temporary education facility while MITS progresses with its long-term redevelopment plans at Punt Road.
Our involvement commenced early, providing design input and cost planning alongside MITS and McIldowie Partners to help shape a fast, cost-effective solution. Early works, including services isolation, minor demolition and hazardous material removal, were completed under an early works agreement prior to Christmas 2023 to ensure momentum heading into the main works phase.
This marks Kane’s fourth project for MITS and continues our commitment to supporting educational and social outcomes for Indigenous students relocating to Melbourne for their schooling. The works at 283 Church Street are designed to be functional and welcoming, providing a safe and supportive space that reflects MITS’ values of opportunity, connection and community.
As with previous MITS projects, this build has been made possible thanks to the collaboration and generosity of our subcontractors and consultants. Kane is honoured to contribute to an initiative that is creating real, lasting change for young people from remote communities across Australia.
