In December 2021, the City of Greater Geelong awarded Kane Constructions the $14 million contract to deliver Stage 1 of the North Bellarine Aquatic and Leisure Centre (NBAC), providing a significant new recreational facility for the growing Bellarine Peninsula community.
Designed by Mantric Architecture following extensive community consultation, Stage 1 formed the first phase of a long-term vision for a regional aquatic and leisure precinct. The project delivered an eight-lane 50-metre outdoor heated pool, all abilities change facilities, an entry pavilion, kiosk, tiered covered spectator seating, landscaped community lawns, extensive tree planting and parking for 60 vehicles.
The project also included substantial civil, landscaping and external works, creating an accessible and welcoming destination that improves access to aquatic and recreational facilities for residents across Drysdale, Curlewis, Portarlington, St Leonards and surrounding communities, who previously travelled to Geelong to access similar facilities.
Construction commenced in early 2022, with the project reaching Practical Completion in August 2023 before opening to the public in November 2023.
