Kane Constructions has been appointed to deliver the Point Nepean Research and Education Field Station, located within the environmentally sensitive and heritage-listed precinct of Point Nepean National Park.

Delivered under a Design and Construct contract for a joint venture between the University of Melbourne and Monash University, the project will establish a purpose-built research and teaching hub supporting marine and coastal ecosystems, climate science and environmental management.

The project includes the adaptive re-use of the mid-century Badcoe Hall, which will be transformed into contemporary laboratories, research workspaces, teaching areas and shared social spaces. The revitalised facility will support collaboration between researchers, students and project partners while preserving the heritage character of the existing building.

A new two-storey short-stay accommodation building will also be constructed to house up to 50 students and researchers undertaking field-based study and research programs. The building will include DDA accessible rooms and will be located between Badcoe Hall and Jackson Road, enabling immersive, on-site learning and extended research stays.

Extensive landscaping works will integrate the new and revitalised facilities within the coastal setting, incorporating parking and delivery areas while respecting the site’s environmental and heritage significance.

Kane will work closely with the universities and project partners to deliver a future-focused facility that strengthens research capability, enhances student experience and supports meaningful engagement with the surrounding environment and community.
