Kane Constructions was selected by QBuild and the Department of Energy & Public Works to deliver the Lump Sum contract for TAFE Queensland Marine Centre of Excellence at Coomera, located on the Gold Coast and known as the boat-building capital of Australia.

The modern two-storey structure primarily utilised concrete and structural steel in its construction. It featured workshops for electrical and mechanical work, fibreglass and lamination, marine textiles and upholstery, as well as an outdoor boat workshop and welding facilities. The facility also included staff accommodation, student learning, and breakout spaces.

The Marine Centre of Excellence was designed to be a world-class training facility, capable of accommodating up to 500 students in marine construction, maintenance, and specialist superyacht training. The facility provides state-of-the-art training for the marine industry, offering specialized courses in a range of areas.

Environmental considerations were a key focus of the project. Given its location in the catchment area of Oaky Creek and the Coomera River, the civil works and landscape planning included the installation of a vegetated bio-retention basin to hold and process stormwater collected onsite, minimising the project's environmental footprint and ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.
