Works commence on Northern Aquatic and Community Hub in Norlane

24th March, 2022

Works on the state-of-the-art Northern Aquatic and Community Hub is well underway. City of Greater Geelong engaged Kane Constructions under a Lump Sum contract in early 2022, with construction works commencing in February 2022.

The facility will replace the existing Waterworld facility and Centenary Hall which will be demolished as part of the contract works.

The facility will be a vibrant space for leisure and recreation activities, cultural and health programs, and community events. The hub will support positive health and wellbeing outcomes for growing communities in the north Geelong growth corridor.

The new aquatic centre and community hub is targeting a 5-star certification under the GreenStar Design & As-Built v1.2 rating tool, demonstrating Australian design excellence in aquatic centres.

The project will deliver

  • A 25 metre indoor pool, hydrotherapy pool, learn to swim pool, water play area and waterslide
  • 1000 square metres of multi-purpose community space
  • Spa, sauna, and steam room
  • Gymnasium, program rooms and occasional care facilities
  • Café
  • Expanded car parking and landscaping
  • Improvements to Corio Library

Windermere Ward councillor Anthony Aitken said: “The hoarding is up, demolition of Centenary Hall will begin soon and the site will be transformed over the next two years into the Greater Geelong Council’s largest ever community project outside of the CBD.”

“Kane Constructions is proud to be delivering this landmark facility that will create a premier health and wellbeing precinct for Geelong’s northern growth corridor. We are currently clearing the ageing Centenary Hall site to make way for the new premier 100-square metre community space that will serve as a central activity hub.”
