Kane breaks ground on The Gordon Centre of Excellence for Inclusion

17th February, 2026

Kane Constructions has officially commenced works on The Gordon Centre of Excellence for Inclusion in Disability Health and Community Support at the City Campus in Geelong.

Victorian Minister for Skills and TAFE, Gayle Tierney, joined The Gordon, Kane and community representatives for a sod-turning ceremony to mark the beginning of construction on this landmark project.

Delivered under a Design & Construct contract, the project involves refurbishment works across four levels of two existing buildings. The works will be delivered in multiple separable portions and carefully staged to ensure the campus remains fully operational throughout construction.

The Centre of Excellence will be the first of its kind in Victoria, established to drive improvement, innovation and system-wide change in disability inclusion across the TAFE sector. The revitalised campus will house a Disability Resource Centre, Jobs Incubator and Student Hub, alongside expanded health training facilities designed to improve access, inclusion and employment outcomes for students with disability.

Key works include opening up a connected ground-level space linking the library and student support services, uplifting entry and amenity areas, enhancing vertical connections to upper levels, expanding health training environments and revitalising landscaped areas at the front, side and central courtyard.

The design, led by Architectus in close collaboration with The Gordon and a dedicated Co-Creation Team, prioritises intuitive wayfinding, calm and welcoming interiors, and strong connections to landscaped outdoor areas. The Centre will feature inclusive learning environments, meeting rooms, a cafeteria, student lounge, sensory-landscaped courtyard and an industry collaboration space to support knowledge sharing across the TAFE network.

Construction commenced in January 2026, with completion scheduled for mid-2027.

Kane is proud to partner with The Gordon and the consultant team to deliver a transformative education facility that sets a new benchmark for inclusive vocational training in Victoria.
