Significant momentum continues at the Wurdi Baierr Aquatic and Recreation Centre, with major progress achieved across both Stage 1 and Stage 2 of construction.
Stage 1 is fast progressing with the structure now complete and façade installation well underway, delivered in partnership with Fawkner Roofing and West Coast Windows. Internal framing and services rough-in have also reached completion, establishing the foundation for the next phase of fitout.
Stage 2 is progressing strongly, with the learn-to-swim pool now complete, the splashpad structure finished, and the structural steel fully erected. The roof is now on and cladding is underway.
The project also continues to benefit from a strong local presence, with key contractors from the Geelong and Surf Coast region contributing to delivery, including A+ Steel Fabrications, Fawkner Roofing, Civilforce, Coen Precast, WKE Geelong, West Coast Windows, Canterbury Formwork, Associated Rigging, D&E Air Conditioning (Geelong), Cooke & Dowsett (Geelong) and FCAM Bricklaying.
More than 60% of inducted workers live locally, and the full Kane project team is also drawn from the Geelong and Surf Coast regions, reinforcing local industry involvement and supporting the community throughout construction.
These works mark strong progress toward delivering a contemporary, accessible and community-focused aquatic, health and recreation hub for the Surf Coast region. The centre is a partnership project with Stage One funded by the Australian Government, the Victorian Government and Surf Coast Shire Council. Stage Two is fully funded by the Victorian Government, through the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program.
