Kane Constructions has successfully delivered a critical upgrade to the Youang Surgery Centre in Geelong as part of the broader Barwon Women’s and Children’s Project. This important development ensures the continued delivery of essential clinical services while making way for future health infrastructure at University Hospital Geelong.
Commissioned by Barwon Health in partnership with the Department of Health and jointly funded by the Victorian and Australian Governments, the project involved both refurbishment and new construction works across Levels 1 and 2 of the Youang Surgery Centre, formerly known as Building B.
The upgraded Endoscopy and Day Procedure Centre on Level 1 will now support patients requiring short-stay diagnostic testing, surgeries and other procedures. Works included approximately 425 square metres of refurbishment within the existing facility and 487 square metres of new build expansion, enabling a more efficient and modern healthcare environment. Despite the complexity of the build, all adjacent services within the facility remained fully operational throughout construction.
Key clinical additions include three new procedure rooms, anaesthetic rooms, expanded recovery and discharge areas, a new reception and waiting area, support zones and upgraded staff change facilities. The reconfiguration of Level 2 has also created a more functional staff tea room and expanded amenities, enhancing day-to-day operations for healthcare professionals.
This project reflects Kane’s commitment to delivering high-quality healthcare environments with minimal disruption, ensuring critical services remain accessible to the broader G21 region while supporting Barwon Health’s long-term growth and patient care goals.
