Following success at the 2025 Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Awards, the Barwon Health Paediatric Emergency Department has been shortlisted for the 2025 National Master Builders Awards in Adelaide, recognised in the National Health Facility Award category.
Delivered in one of Victoria’s busiest hospitals, the project represents a significant milestone in Barwon Health’s ongoing redevelopment of University Hospital Geelong. The new facility provides a contemporary, purpose-built environment designed to meet the growing demand for paediatric emergency services in the region.
The works were delivered across three carefully staged phases to maintain full hospital operations. This required detailed planning, extensive stakeholder engagement and a collaborative approach between Kane, Barwon Health and the consultant team to minimise disruption to patients, staff and visitors. The completed facility includes acute and short-stay treatment areas, triage and resuscitation rooms, consultation spaces and a new Renal Workshop. Each area was designed to enhance patient comfort, safety and operational efficiency for clinical teams.
