Following a successful win at the 2025 Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Awards, the Paula Fox Melanoma and Cancer Centre has been shortlisted for the 2025 National Master Builders Awards in Adelaide this Friday, recognised in the National Commercial/Industrial Construction Award – Over $100 Million category.
Delivered for Alfred Health in collaboration with Lyons Architecture, the $100 million-plus facility represents a major contribution to Australia’s health and research landscape.
Located within Melbourne’s medical precinct, the six-storey building brings together high-specification clinical areas, PC2-certified laboratories and welcoming patient-focused spaces, designed to support world-class melanoma and cancer research, treatment and care.
The Kane team introduced a series of technical innovations, including prefabricated elements and advanced 3D modelling, to meet stringent compliance and performance requirements while achieving the project’s distinctive curved glass façade. Inspired by the texture and fluidity of human skin, this architectural feature required full-scale prototype testing and bespoke installation techniques, reflecting the collaboration between designers, engineers and trades throughout delivery.
Kane is proud to see this significant healthcare project recognised on the national stage, acknowledging the skill and commitment of everyone involved in delivering a facility that supports leading research and high-quality care for patients and their families.
